Overview

Holiday Highlights

  • Activities such as yoga, Pilates, aerobics, circuit training and Nordic Walking.
  • Half day kayaking on a nearby lake.
  • Various after-dinner entertainment including pasta making and cheese & wine evenings.
  • After-dinner wellness activity with your yoga instructor - Yang Sheng.
  • Enjoy the camaraderie of an all-female group.
  • Hassness Country House's hospitality and stunning lake views.

There’ll be no military people screaming at you to do push-ups in puddles or throwing you around an assault course. But there will be some early starts and activities happening before breakfast, some exercises that’ll maybe stretch you, plus a good range of activities throughout the week. There are introductions to hill walking, Nordic walking, aerobics and circuit training, as well as some gentle yoga and Pilates sessions. A fun, non-competitive multi-activity week.

The hill walks will be more than a gentle walk but they won’t be a race to the peaks. The Nordic walking will have you exercising the muscles of your upper body as well as those in your legs, and a little pre-breakfast exercise will get the blood flowing.

Yoga and Pilates activities give you a break from all the fresh air of the great outdoors, as well as movement and relaxation therapy. Some hardier souls may even take to the lake for a bracing morning plunge in the tranquil waters of Buttermere - an arctic swim in the safety of the Lake District.

For others, there are always cakes each day to balance the more active parts of the programme. As well as the cakes, there’s some good home cooked food, power showers, a comfy bed and somewhere to plug in your hairdryer. It’ll do wonders for your mind, body and spirit.

Activities not only take place during the day, but also in the evening. Our yoga instructor will offer an after-dinner wellness session to enhance your break; Yang Sheng for wellness. Yang means nourishing or nurturing and Sheng means life, growth or vitality. It’s a Daoist self-cultivation practice to ‘nourish life’. Yang Sheng draws on a range of practices including food and culinary herbs, movement and exercise, meditation and other forms of self-care to balance and support energy, or Qi. As energy flows through the natural cycle of the seasons our self-care changes season to season. The after-dinner session on Yang Sheng will explore seasonal living and practices to support the appropriate movement of energy.

Other evenings will be filled with a variety of activities. Enjoy a cozy movie night with popcorn, try your hand at making fresh pasta for dinner alongside our resident chef, and gain valuable insights into mountain safety from a visit by the local rescue team. Plus, indulge in a delightful after-dinner cheese and wine evening to awaken the senses.

Most importantly, you will have the chance to be yourself and share experiences with a group of supportive and like-minded women. Be prepared for a lot of fun, bonding, storytelling and banter!

  • Accommodation and all healthy meals except for dinner on Wednesday (which can be taken in one of Buttermere’s village pubs)
  • Complimentary tea & coffee always available and cake each afternoon
  • Lakeland hill walking with the girls
  • Yoga & Pilates sessions, morning jogging and warm up exercises
  • An introduction to Nordic walking
  • Aerobics & circuit training
